First, congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! I am the Director of Music & Liturgy at St. Josaphat Church, and I have the delightful task of helping create beautiful music forweddingliturgies.
The first step we can take together is gathering for our annualWeddingMusic Workshop. This Workshop will take place on Sunday, February 1st at 7pmat St. Josaphat. Your attendance is not mandatory, but this is a terrific way to get some ideas when it comes to planning the music for your liturgy. Read below for more details about this fun evening.
Although this email is mainly intended forcouplesbeingmarriedat St. Josaphat, I am happy to extend the invitation tocouples gettingmarriedelsewhere. It's free (!) to attend, and you might pick up some musical ideas you may not have considered for yourwedding celebration. All are welcome!
What is theWeddingMusic Workshop?
You can think of the Workshop, in part, as an informative presentation (with me as the emcee), but mostly, it's a concert! You will hear a number of musicians (instrumentalists AND vocalists) presentweddingmusic repertoire. I will talk a bit about the format of aweddingliturgy, where music goes in the celebration, and, with the help of my marvelous colleagues, offer some sample performances of the music selections you might consider. The duration of the Workshop is less than one hour.
Do I need to prepare anything? What is expected of me at the Workshop?
You do not need to prepare anything. You may simply come and enjoy some great music. You might like to take some notes, though -- if you are wowed by a certain piece of music, you'll want to remember what it was, right?
What are the next steps after the Workshop?
Please get in touch with me no later than three months before yourweddingdate. That gives us enough time to schedule a meeting (in person, if possible, but Zoom/phone meeting is fine also), and to make the musical arrangements, book the musicians, etc...
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. Finally, if you will be in attendance at the Workshop, it would be of great help for me in planning this evening if you would RSVP by emailing me at [email protected]. I look forward to working with you!
